OxyContin theft: Suspect turns himself in to police
A 20-year-old Gresham man is in custody in connection with an armed robbery at a Troutdale Walgreen's store.
The store, located at Southwest 257th and Stark Street, was robbed on Nov. 8 by a man decked out in ski attire. The thief held up a pharmacist at gunpoint and made off with numerous bottles of OxyContin worth around $4,000.
"After receiving numerous tips throughout the day on Monday, Troutdale Detectives have arrested the armed robbery suspect from the Walgreen's store," according to a press release from Troutdale police.
Troutdale Police Department Sergeant Steve Bevens told KATU that it was because of the station's coverage on Sunday, immediately after the robbery, that police were able to identify the suspect.
Arrested was 20-year-old Sean Mychal Kuiawa of Gresham. Kuiawa agreed to turn himself in to detectives Tuesday at 4 p.m. He was interviewed and transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center on a charge of robbery in the first degree.

The Troutdale Walgreen's story is at Southeast Stark Street where it intersects with Southwest 257th Avenue. Certainly can be confusing!

What the hell are you people thinking with..
Yes he robbed the store for DRUGS, which indicates he has a drug addiction. 2- more power to him for turning himself in, It is probably the hardest thing he has ever had to do! He probably realized that he could get help with his addiction in jail and not have to have the terrible withdrawl it comes with. if you have ever had a drug addiction then you can understand, sympathize and support this situation.
otherwise SHUT THE HELL UP !!! give the guy a break!

I agree with you. Some of you people think one way and one way only. What if it was your family? Oh I'm sure you're probably saying Not my kids...blah...blah...blah... not all criminals come from broken abusive homes. Did you ever think that something could have happen to him in his life? I'm not saying doing a crime is right, no, but HE TURNED HIMSELF IN! He is taking responsibility for what he did. He will pay the price. You know, the human race isn't as intelligent as SOME PEOPLE think. There is no compassion and when one person screws up SOME OF YOU are like a rabid pack of dogs. I feel pity for you. Just remember this, God wants us to have compassion.

WELL BUCKO...WHEN you START PAYING YOUR SHARE OF TAXES AS LONG AS I HAVE AND SOME PUNK TAKES FROM YOU WHAT YOU HAVE WORKED HARD FOR,,,,YOU MIGHT BE A LITTLE MORE OBJECTIVE...ITS OK TO HAVE SYMPATHY...BUT HE ROBBED AT GUNPOINT AND JUST BECAUSE ITS A BUSINESS DOESNT MEAN THE EMPLOYEES WHO DEALT WITH THIS THAT DAY DIDNT GET SCARRED IN SOME WAY...LET ALONE SHOT BY THIS FRIGGIN LOSER.....MAN UP DUDE. REALITY SEZ WHATS RIGHT IS RIGHT.....HE TURNED HIMSELF IN DUE TO PRESSURE FROM HIS FAMILY LIKELY...NOT BECAUSE THE GUILT WAS TOO MUCH TO BEAR
IM DONE...THANKS FOR LISTENING

I love this kid to death and yes he did something wrong and weather you think that he knows it or not doesnt really matter to me he knows what he did was wrong and he is taking responsibility for what he did. No it doesnt make it right but he had maned up. Yes his family had some sway in his decision (I know first hand) but that doesnt mean that he didnt fell bad or have a huge amount of guilt. And i pay taxes and i know for a fact that he was paying taxes so if it is such a big problem with you on the whole tax issues we will just tell the state to take it out of the taxes that Sean and his family have paid for all their lifes Grow up it can happen to anyone and if it was your family you would be happy that they were gonig to get some help get over your self you are not the only one in this world that pays taxes so you can just say its not you paying for it its the people in his family and sean himself.

Thank you at least some people can see that he can turn himself around. He was a good kid before all of this and with the love and support and help from his family i really feel that he can kick this problem and he can be so much better

He probably turned himself in because he felt horrible and was desparate. That's what drugs seem to do. Hopefully he can get the help he needs while he is young and not turn into a life long criminal / drug addict

First of all yeah drug addiction is a disease, but that does not justify armed robbery on any level. And if you are to the point that you are willing to point a gun at someone to get your drugs you have clearly no place in fuctioning society. Throw him away and let the withdrawls eat him is solitary confinemet. You act like getting addicted to a substance that you willing start abusing deserves some sort of sympathy. Well maybe for someone who is trying to treat that disease not just steal drugs at gun point and grow a conscience later after police find him out.

I find it amazing that everyone has the capability to make snap judgements when no one knows all the facts. I'm sure each one of you live in glass houses and are perfect! No there is no excuse but society should be looking to reform someone that has a chance to and not immediately condemn them for their entire lives because of a mistake.

Honestly we aren't talking about a 10 year old we are talking about some kid who is 20. And as far as glass houses go I come from one thats windows are clouded with addictive substances and addictive relatives. Addiction is terrible my family lossed our house when my mom was fired from her job because of her addiction to alcohal. Is anyone to blame for that? Yes her. The argument that society should try and reform some failure cause he is young is ludacris. If he really cares about his life he will try and reform it himself. At this point I see no justification for sympathy and you wouldn't either if he actually pulled that trigger. Do you honestly think we should allow people who could get to a point where they are willing to put drugs before human life, or better yet threaten human life for drugs to just roam the streets freely, "hoping" (obviously his motives are speculation and hoping for self reform is about the best motive anyone can think of for the kid turning himself in, and it still doesn't cut it) they can make their lives better. Had that been a black or mexican gangster I guarntee you wouldn't be rushing to defend him. Get real.

Drug addiction, especially opiate addiction, is a horribly physically and emotionally debilitating disease. While armed robbery is a very serious offense, I think it serves as testament to the seriousness of this type of problem. If this young man (and he is) does not have a history of prior criminal convictions, and because no one was hurt, I would hope that he is given an opportunity to get clean and turn his life around. One thing for people to think about is that but for the grace of God, there goes possibly someone close to ourselves (maybe our son, a cousin, brother, or even ourselves). People can change and I think that in light of his age, and lack of someone getting hurt, it is important that society provide the opportunity and expectation that people are capable of reformation. If society appears unwilling to give its citizens second chances, then what incentive would people have in attempting to straighten out their troubled lives. I suspect people would see the hopelessness in being prejudged and condemned forever and would simply resign themselves to continue engaging in bad behavior and criminal acts. Therefore, I think our society is well served in providing second chances (but not repetitive chances).

"Our Society". What would you have "Our Society" defined as? America cause if so obviously you can be disproven through empircal examples that, America is hardly a land of second chances, baring your rich or connected. It just amazes me the naieve statements people make about rehabilitation. First of all people who go to jail generally become more aggresive and more intrenched in negative thought processes, second this kid is obviously not all there if he would take a gun to someone over some pills that he can buy for 5 - 25 dollars a piece off his junkie friends, and last there are 400+ million people that live in this society so color me utiltarianist, but if that kid died today the world wouldn't know the difference. So why should I invest my tax dollars in trying to see some scrub released back into the public where he can sucumb to the pressures of addiction again and possibly resort to such a blatantly evil misguided act. I have known some junkies in my day but none that would hold someone to gun point and if they did I say lock them up and throw away the key too. But then again I guess it wasn't your wife or child on the otherside of the counter with a hand gun being shoved in their face. Think of the people not the individual this kid has nothing good to offer society.

Hi Cousin,
Could you please tell me why did that guy rob the Walgreen at gun point?
I would say he is a good guy, because he did not hurt anyone inside and out side the store.
You are so close to him, I think you knew about his robbing plan why you did not prevent him from that Rob?
You are so close to him, why you did not find out his problems whatever might be and give him correct remedy or treatment?
I think you and his parents are also responsible that rob.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO UNDERSTANDS THAT DRUGS CAN MAKE YOU DO DUMB THINGS. SEAN IS AN AMAZING GUY! AND THIS ISNT WHO HE IS!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR EVERYONE WHO HAS LIVED LIFE AND UNDERSTANDS THAT SHIT HAPPENS!

All I hear is blah blah blah we are justifying him breaking the law blah blah blah he did something terrible but that doesnt make him terrible blah blah blah my best friend is a junkie and probably going to jail.
Congrats you pick winners
