Cops and shots: Gresham H1N1 clinic draws police presence

""

The last public H1N1 clinic in Gresham was held today by Multnomah County health officials at Mt. Hood Community College.  Gresham city officials said they had two uniformed police officers, two Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputies, volunteers and police cadets on hand in anticipation of handling the traffic caused by thousands of people seeking vaccines. The effort was in part to prevent what happened in late-October when tensions grew at a North Portland swine-flu clinic. I'll be following this story on Saturday's 11 p.m. newscast on KATU Channel 2.

Meanwhile, Multnomah County health officials tell me the county now will redirect its vaccine to private doctors instead of public clinics.

The whole thing is turning into a really bad movie. My boyfriend has the flu right now. It's not been bad so far. Fever broke after the first day. Stuffed up head and fairly mild cough. But, I tried to buy a new thermometer and some OTC meds at the Gresham K-Mart and they were sold out of thermometers and the meds isle was picked over like the fan isle during a heatwave.

As far as the swine flu scare goes it is a little out of hand but nothing to joke around about.  Its not the swine flu that is killing people, its the next stage of it when it turns into pneumonia and other respiratory problems.  My husband had swine flu first 3 weeks ago that lasted 10 days but then he wasnt able to breathe very well.  I ended up taking him to the ER and they sent him home with antibiotics and an inhaler saying it was mild pneumonia.  5 days later we were back in the ER because every day he had been getting worse and worse.  They admitted him with severe pneumonia and he spent 5 more days in the hospital with oxygen levels as low as 85 which is far from good.  At one point they asked him his ressussitation (sorry my spelling sucks) wishes and that was the point at which we realized how serious his condition was when he was a normally healthy guy.  He is at home now recovering but is still struggling to to breathe at times.  So just be careful and dont hesistate to take yourself or your loved ones in even if you think its nothing.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I'll admit, I'm afraid to see where this will go. I have heard from many people, kicking it quick oftens ends up returning as something worse.  I hope your hubby makes a full recovery soon. And that you don't get it!

I just hope sick people shop online this year, and not in the stores, so they don't infect others this holiday season.
